DAY TWO — TURN ASIDE AND LISTEN
Read: Exodus 3:1–15
Moses saw a bush that burned but was not consumed.
The encounter began when Moses decided to turn aside and look. The burning bush had his attention, but the voice of God changed his direction.
God told Moses that the ground beneath his feet was holy. It was not holy because of the desert, the mountain or the bush. It was holy because God was present.
There are moments when heaven interrupts our ordinary routines. But we can become so busy, disappointed or distracted that we walk past the very place where God wants to speak.
Aidan responded when he was called from Iona to Northumbria. In AD 635, King Oswald invited him to establish a Christian community on Lindisfarne. Aidan crossed the sea and entered an unfamiliar land because he believed the call of God was greater than the security of remaining where he was.
God may not be asking you to cross a sea, but He may be asking you to cross a road, make a telephone call, forgive someone, begin serving or pray with another person.
The question is not simply, “Is God speaking?”
The question is, “Are we willing to turn aside and listen?”
Action for today:
Turn off every distraction for twenty minutes. Read Exodus 3 slowly and ask:
“Lord, what have I been walking past that requires my attention?”
Take one small step of obedience before the day ends.
